The problem looks simple and quickly solvable, but in fact it can cause all manner of difficult situations. The client's problem

On the Elfershausen Autobahn A7, a tire burst on a freight train trailer. The driver has a spare wheel, but he cannot remove it from the mounting. Special tools and help are needed.

We immediately accepted the request and took down all the data about the breakdown location and the size of the tires. Since we had calculated in advance that the spare wheel might be unusable, we decided to play it safe and bring a new one. Otherwise, we would have lost time.

When the tire fitters arrived at site to remove the spare wheel, it turned out that it had a hole in it and was therefore unusable. Fortunately, experience has taught us to calculate all the steps in advance, and there was a new wheel in stock that our technician had brought with him. We quickly mounted the tire and the driver was able to continue.

What if you try to solve the problem yourself?

The driver tried to change the wheel on his own. He could not remove it, but when he did, it turned out that the spare wheel was punctured as well. Besides, every driver knows that a truck and a trailer are different from a car in that it is very difficult to change a wheel by yourself. You need a compressor with a strong wrench and a special hydraulic press. Sometimes the driver does not even have a jack on hand, and the spare wheel is either non-existent or unusable, as in the example above. We should also look at the facts: a wheel with a disk for a semi-trailer weighs about 120 kg, and a wheel from a mining truck weighs more than 5.5 tons. In either case, he would have to ask for help. 

If you are in Germany, then after hours, for example early morning or on weekends, it will be very difficult to find a service willing to help you, and it will also be very expensive. You also need to know exactly where to call. In Germany, for example, there are more than 13,000 km of expressways and highways and 39,600 km of federal highways. The catch is that the responsibility for these roads is shared among different companies that deal with the removal and installation of tires. This means you have to find the exact company responsible for the section of road you are on. Also, you need good German or at least English to be able to explain yourself somehow. And the "icing on the cake" is that you need to provide a guarantee of payment, otherwise no one will even leave the premises.
