How much does a tow truck cost?

The cost of towing a truck depends on the region and specific circumstances. On average, the hourly rate ranges from €400 to €500. This amount includes the base hourly rate, travel expenses. Possible additional costs are not included, e.g. for accompanying transport, additional special transport (crane, etc.) or work outside working hours.

Each case is different, so it is often impossible to calculate the amount of time required in advance. Therefore, in standard cases (removal from the motorway), 3 hours of work is taken as a base.

Calculation examples

Towing a truck over a distance of 30 km with a duration of 4 hours may involve the following costs:

  • Base cost: 3 hours × €400 (average hourly rate) = €1,200
  • Driveshaft removal and installation: 30–60 minutes × €400/hour = €400

Total estimated cost: €1,200 + €400 = €1,600

In major cities like Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt, prices tend to be higher due to increased operating expenses. However, costs can be reduced by up to 50% through timely negotiations and selecting the right service provider.

Evening, weekend, and holiday rates can add up to 100% of the base rate, significantly increasing the total cost.

Example with a 50% surcharge:

  • Additional surcharge: 50% of €1,600 = €800
  • Total cost with surcharge: €1,600 + €800 = €2,400

The final towing cost depends on factors such as distance, time required, and any additional services. To secure the best price, it’s advisable to compare multiple offers and consider working with local companies.
